Roger Bonafé

The French painter from the gallery the most popular in Japan

For more than 20 years, the work of Roger Bonafé has been exhibited all over the world. He joined the Gallery “The Lady of Castellet” in the early 1990s. After many exhibitions, the art gallery accompanied him to the UN in 2001, for an exhibition in Geneva where he represents France. In 2002 he is the honorary artist of Val Castle. Japan regularly hosts it every year for high-profile exhibitions.

The long career of this artist has been traced in a beautiful monograph on sale at the gallery “La Dame du Castellet”.

Roger Bonafé was born in 1932 in Caux (34). He arrives in Paris in the 57s, lives in Montmartre and rubs shoulders with the great painters of the Butte, Gen Paul, Jansem, Lorgou, Carzou, Buffet … Without ceasing to admire Vlaminck, Matisse and Rouault, he will quickly find his own writing. He pursues a very personal itinerary. At the beginning of the 60’s, he presents in gallery a very typed work, with big colorful flat-tops. Very quickly the palette will become hot, intense and luminous. The powerful reds will not leave him. The lights, the colors and the power of the landscapes of La Provence where he lives only nourish the tremendous love of life of this extraordinary artist.

He is a painter permanently presented at the gallery “La Dame du Castellet”.

I will be pleased to present you his works. Just announce your visit since the gallery is open only by appointment.
